A Kitty Dream

Created in just five days for Nitrome's Game Jam by Ryan Carag and Bill Kiley, A Kitty Dream is a sweet and not-so-sleepy little Metroidvania-esque platformer about a kitten exploring a strange and surreal world while unlocking new abilities as you find them. The [arrow] keys move, with [S] is jump, which is your only real "skill" in the beginning. Take damage from something and you'll be zapped back to your last save point, which you can activate by tapping the down [arrow] when standing in front of one. The charming retro style and initially sleepy atmosphere may feel too at odds with the somewhat exacting platforming required later on for some players who pick it up in hopes of something as mellow and relaxing as it presents itself to be. As a result, A Kitty Dream probably won't be for everyone, but if you don't mind getting your paws dirty and think you can handle some pixel-perfect leaps, it's still a seriously cute little game that's just the right size for a Metroidvania-flavoured snack.

This was really good, although surprisingly difficult with the movable blocks dream section. The rules weren't exactly clear, and it took me a little while to understand that

the blocks are meant to simulteanously touch the zones, and not stay in them

since it kinds of goes against the rules of every puzzle of that kind.

Still a great game. I would have loved it to be a little longer, if its creators want to keep working on it later on !

I think the movable blocks section was a bit unfair since there was no way to figure out the trick without solving the other part of the puzzle and then moving the last block out of frustration or something. A previous section with hitting a block through an outline to show that they don't have to stay in it would've been a good way to teach that to the player.

Otherwise it was a fun little game. I only found one secret, wonder where the other two are.

Found all 3 secrets. Two of them are easy but the third one is hard. The first one is in plain sight. The second one is in the middle of the sky, to get it go 3 screens to the right from the starting screen, go to the top of screen and when you can't find solid ground, jump into the air on the left. The third one is very tricky, at the screen where you get the square in the dream world, use the blocks from the previous screen to go onto the top. You can then see the secret but not reaching it. To reach it, go back to the ground (the beginning) and move the closest block and push a block up to make a platform for you to land. You'll have to push the block a bit to the left by pushing it and quickly go to another screen to make this adjustment.

Is the large expanse of "water" in the low right screen that you can access soon after getting dash ability actually crossable? I feel like it should be but if it is I don't have the upgrades for it. I'm stuck at 2 squares out of 3 - help!

I got dash and stopped playing shortly after because I couldn't get any further with it. I got totally lost.

This REALLY needs a map.

This really irritates me. I don't have problems with finding where to go, I have problems with going there.

I can't cross the water or go back and jump the 2 sharp heart things after getting the dash ability. Giving up in frustration!

With a little bit of ingenuity, it is possible to get yourself stuck unless you reload the game.

ckit.cheung earlier mentioned the presence of secret #3. From there, you should also have guessed that from the second puzzle room in the Heaven (not Dream, as he called it) zone, you can also try pushing the blocks in such a way that you can dash upwards into a screen with no platforms.

Better still, if you manage to land on the left, you can meet up with an NPC that says, "It is a long time since I had a visitor."

If, instead, you head right, you might just get stuck on the OUTSIDE of the zone. No amount of dash-jumping will help you there.

The platforming can be a bit rough, and I can understand that leading to a little trouble telling where to go next. But outside that, I think this game's pretty much perfect.

When I first started playing this, I was hoping for a relaxing, fun metroidvania platformer.

But my God, these intricately-timed jump-sideways-dash-up-doublejump-sideways spots are ragequittingly frustrating. If I could map the keys to a PS3 controller or something, I could probably breeze through much easier. These kind of pixel-perfect multi-key jumps were never intended for keyboard controls.

To get out after gaining dash

You can dash upwards --never would have figured it out, found the answer elsewhere. Still incredibly hard
