Back in 2015, LucidShadowDreamer's text-based game Playing with Letters had us chasing a shrewd criminal through a series of boxes that could only be unlocked through riddle-solving ingenuity. Well, if you enjoyed struggling through the original, you'll be happy to hear that the puzzling antagonist is back for a sequel in A Sweet Typing Thrill. If you haven't played the first game, you'll enjoy this one far more if you play them in order.
A Sweet Typing Thrill is set some time after the events of Playing with Letters, with your detective character still unconvinced that the criminal mastermind is actually dead. When you decide to return to the scene of the crime to revisit your previous investigation, you once again find yourself caught in his web of riddles and red herrings.
Navigation is simple: [z] to proceed, [enter] to speed up the text and [backspace] to display the whole screen of text at once. To solve each riddle, type in your answer and press [enter] to submit. The navigation is the only simple thing about this game, as most of the riddles are pretty tough to nut out. You'll need to read closely, take note (literally) of the presented clues and think outside the box to solve each puzzle.
I loved Playing with Letters and enjoyed this sequel even more. It's quite short, but solving each riddle is incredibly rewarding and the soundtrack is a nice accompaniment to the text. And yes, apparently there is a secret ending...
The link to Playing With Letters appears to have a typo, it goes to https://jayisgames.com/review/jayisgames.com/review/playing-with-letters.php instead of https://jayisgames.com/review/playing-with-letters.php . Anyway, I'm off to try both games now!
Thanks Arceus: it's fixed now.
This was a great game!
I especially liked the "Rotate" puzzle, since you had to
use the thirteen clue
that is, the ROT13 clue
Any ideas about the secret ending?
Here is a hint for the secret ending taken from a post by LucidShadowDreamer on Newgrounds:
I promised a hint about the secret ending, so let me explain. There isn't really much of a puzzle, as the secret ending isn't really even announced all too well. You can get it by replacing the answer of the very last puzzle with something else. I didn't want it to take away from the main story too much, so I kinda left it in as a semi-meta perk for those that are really interesting. As for the hint, let's just say that I thought for quite a while what the title of the game should be, hehhe...
I can make out one thing of interest from "A Sweet Typing Thrill", but I tried to enter all the thins I could of that that answer seemed to imply, to no avail. I still can't see what the right response to get the secret ending would be...
Further hints for the secret ending:
Hint 1
The creator hints that the secret ending has something to do with the title of the game.
Hint 2
Remember that this game is a sequel.
Hint 3
What is one common puzzle that has been used in both games?
Hint 4
Anagrams have been used in both games. What are some anagrams of the game's title?
If you just want the answer:
When the criminal asks you for his surname, enter: Playing With Letters.
