Although many room escape aficionados prefer long, complicated escapes, sometimes there's enjoyment to be found in brevity, especially if it's done correctly. Dghgbakufu is one designer who knows how to do short and sweet well, and they are here with Chikarou 3, a quick and yet fun little dungeon escape that is perfect for the mid-week break.
The rules are simple, wander around the area and solve a few problems to make it to the outside, none of the usual dungeon escaping methods like digging or tunneling required. It should be noted that Chikarou 3 is definitely not the game for the colorblind, since practically every puzzle in this brief adventure is color-based. And this is indeed a very short game, with basically three main puzzles to solve to escape the rather light and airy concrete structure that you are trapped in. What we're looking at is room escaping stripped to its very essence: small area, no music, very small inventory (room for 3 items), and a single point of escape.
Chikarou 3 (chikarou means dungeon) is a short yet memorable and logical little escape game, a perfect 5 minute and out exercise in escaping. Come and enjoy Monte Cristoing your way out of this amusing little dungeon, hopefully with no need for a long, protracted plan of vengeance once you've made it.

Chikarou 3 Walkthrough
Exploration (always clicking right arrow)
Screen 1
In the centre, it looks as if a ladder could be there, but it is missing. To the left of the ladder, there is a box containing roman numerals - I (yellow), V (mauve), X (cyan). To the right there is a box, which appears to need a key.
Screen 2
In the centre, there is a bookcase with red, green, blue and black books. To the left of the bookcase there is a box, which is fastened by screws. To the right there is a box with a glass panel; behind the panel, there is a key.
Screen 3
There are four boxes containing books that are the same colour as the roman numerals on screen 1.
In the far right box, behind the book, there is a piece of paper. Pick it up.
Screen 4
There are two boxes. On the left there is a list of roman numerals and thier corresponding numbers. To the right there is a box that needs a four-digit code.
The Puzzles
The four-digit code
The four-digit code is obtained from the four boxes with the coloured books.
Each book corresponds to one of the coloured roman numerals on screen one. The far left alcove has one mauve book, which corresponds to V, the centre left alcove has one mauve book followed by two yellow books, which corresponds to VII, etc
Look at the conversion chart on screen 4 to calculate the number corresponding to the roman numerals.
5794
Enter four-digit code into box on screen 4. Open door, find a screwdrive and pick it up.
The three-button puzzle
Use the screwdriver on the box on Screen 2 to the left of the bookcase. There are three black buttons. Click on them and notice that they change colour, red, green then blue.
The objective is to change the three buttons to blue using the sequence on the bookshelf.
Look closely at the bookshelf to calculate the sequence.
right, left, right, centre, left, centre, right, centre, left.
Once you have entered the correct sequence, ou will hear a noise of something opening. Come out of closeup and zoom in on right box; the glass has now gone. Pick up the key.
The final puzzle
Use the key to open the box on Screen 1. You will find a 4x4 grid. Look at the piece of paper you picked up earlier from behind the book on Screen 3.
Enter the sequences in the only order they will go. Once you have done this, you will hear a noise. Back up and notice there is now a ladder ready to climb. Climb it and you are out.
