You're a professional room escaper who just received a new challenge by mail. A helicopter air-lifts you to a remote island where the room is waiting, but getting in may prove to be as difficult as getting out! Such is the setup for Gatamari Escape 24 (by Gatamari, who else?). Navigate around the game world with the mouse, keep your brain in gear, and cross your fingers, because it's going to take luck and/or use of the game's save feature to get the best of the game's four endings.
The text may be in Japanese, but the puzzles aren't; as with the rest of Gatamari's work, everything can be solved without taking a language course. The puzzles are just the right difficulty and require just a wee bit of escape-savvy and thinking outside the box. The game world isn't as expansive as that of Gatamari Escape 23, but that just means it's less of a chore to get from here to there-- and there are lots of things to open and plenty of puzzle-solving to do. It's a great game to kill an hour or more... emphasis on "or more", because it's not hard to get stuck!
stuck trying to figure out
bucket of ice, firelighter, and matches. Are there logs somewhere? I've tried using the paper I have but it hasn't worked
Hint for the wobbly window puzzle
Notice that no matter where you click, the window moves where it wants to move.
So it's actually not a puzzle, it's a hint for another puzzle.
Take note of the 9 left/right moves the window makes.
Now you can solve the right-left puzzle on the back wall.
I'm stuck trying to open the green box with the roman numeral code. I'm pretty sure it's derived from
the ladder taken from the right side of the cabinet
but I can't seem to read it correctly.
POP, never mind.
I had to overlap both ladders to get the code
I don't understand what I see when I
I use the telescope on the snow scene behind the
electrified fence.
The four groups of splotches each expand to larger shapes, but other than the shape on the lower left, I don't know what the are supposed to be.
POP. Silly me. The telescope
has three possible lengths. I was only using the longest length.
@AutomneLiza
How did you obtain the
matches?
From what you're saying, I believe you're missing the
coal, which is obtained by opening the green lock box by the front door.
Nvm, I found them.
To get the matches you have to
unsolve the puzzle that was solved before you started.
Well, I have managed to get the first three endings, but I can't figure out how to get the good one :/
I'm stalled out. I have the first seven items, nine, ten and thirteen. I think my next step is to figure out the code for the right side of the wooden cabinet. Suggestions, anyone?
I put the coal in the fireplace and lit it with the firestarter, and put the bucket above it, but the ice doesn't melt. Is there also some wood somewhere? I have tried adding the ladders, the book, and the paper to the fire, but they don't go.
shjack:
Do you remember what obstacle stopped you at the last bad ending? Do you remember where it was? Locate that spot outside the building and see what you can do there.
Thanks, SonicLover! :)
Whitney:
Never mind the cabinet for now; you at least want the fourteenth item before it'll be relevant. Instead, look for a place to put the ninth item.
I did use it, and the thirteenth, which got me the tenth.
barbara:
The firestarters didn't light the fire-- they're just kindling. You need something that'll actually light it. Reread the comments above yours; someone already gave a hint for the critical item's whereabouts.
(to Whitney)
Oh. Well, how about this?
The thirteenth item can be used in two places. Have you found them both?
That did it. Thank you.
Thanks SonicLover. I never would have thought of that. But I guess I should have for this game since many things are Not How They Seem.
I have had the No Items, Darkness, and Submarine ends, although I'm don't know exactly what random thing I did caused me to get those endings. What's the fourth ending?
As far as I can tell, the changeable things are
Where the battery is.
Whether the power is on or not.
Whether the bucket is hanging on the wall.
Where the ladders are.
I don't have the patience to try all those combinations, especially since there might be even more things.
Regarding the endings:
There are three criteria you need to meet in order to get the good ending. If you don't, which criterion you failed to meet determines which bad ending you get. If you miss multiple criteria, the lower-numbered bad ending takes precedence.
The placement of the ladders isn't relevant to any of the criteria.
There are three bad endings and one good ending. To get the one you're missing:
After you open the front door of the house, make sure that the battery pack is placed where you originally found it and the power switch at the back of the house is turned back on. Do not hang the bucket at the back of the house. This will give you the No Password ending. The placement of the ladders in each ending is inconsequential.
I'm stuck at about the halfway point.
I have the notebook, heart/spade clue, matches, ladder, ice bucket, fire starter, telescope, magnet, and battery still available in my inventory. I've seen the hint from the snowman, and it just looks like gibberish to me. I'm pretty sure the next thing I need to do is open the four-letter code cabinet, but I have no idea what the clues might be for that.
Can anyone help?
N.P.:
The snowman's clue would probably look less like gibberish if you put something there.
Thanks, SonicLover!
Thanks, all! Found all four endings (all three "bad" ones, in order, and then the "good" one). Needed no hints beyond what was previously posted.
Fun!
holy crackers, that took a lot of brain power!
for anyone stuck on the door code
did you look at the back of the key card?
don't those six squares look familiar, from the puzzle on the bottom brown door?
what happens if you write the numbers of the steps in those boxes?
how about doing some division?
top row, left to right: | 45 | | 27 | | 16 |
bottom row, left to right: | 9 | | 3 | | 8 |
i knew that math would come in handy some day!
hope that helped save someone some brain cells :D
I am stuck at the right hand cabinet that needs a 4-letter clue. I have tried
pass, note, fire and ohio
but obviously these are wrong. Any hints/
Spike:
The code for that cabinet won't be a word. Have you acquired the magnet yet?
@Sonic
no, I guess that will be my next question: How do you get the magnet?
oh wow. POP!!
walkthrough ready?
How do you open the green box?
Marty:
To open the green box, you need to input a particular sequence of I's, II's, and III's by clicking the three corresponding buttons, then click OPEN; if you got the sequence correct, the light will turn green and you'll hear an unlocking sound. Then you can back away and click on the green box's lid to open it.
As for what that sequence is, let me just say that you'll need to open the four-letter cabinet first.
Thanks, got it and got out!
Ok, I must have accidentally entered a game room for the intellectually gifted. As I feel like a child reading how you are all halfway (or all the way) through this game.
I have the first four (obvious) items, I thought I might have a code for the left cabinet (but alas it does not seem to be).
From there I wander with no real direction.
Am I missing something obvious?
I have no idea how to get the magnet.
I think, from the notebook, that I need to tie a piece of metal to the string, and use that to get the magnet. But I don't have a piece of metal.
chapel:
You do have the code for the left cabinet. Are you sure you're entering it correctly?
Google Account URL:
You are absolutely correct. The "piece of metal" in question should be obvious when the time comes. Have you gotten the telescope yet?
Yes. And i've used it to get the number of footprints. I can't find any other place to use it.
You're incredibly close, Google Account URL.
There IS another place where you can use the telescope. Hint: the telescope is long.
