Oath of Peak has only just launched, but it's already tearing up the mobile charts. On launch day alone, it fired into first place on the App Store and Google Play in Asia-Pacific territories. Now, over 500k players have checked out the game in the Asia-Pacific alone.
The signs were all there prior to launch too, with 500k players signing up for pre-registration, and 200k taking part in the open beta.
If you haven't heard of it, Oath of Peak is a mobile MMORPG that draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese story, The Classic of Mountains and Seas, or Shan Hai Jing.
Its developer, Cangaming Net, is no stranger to the Xianxia style that Shan Hai Jing uses, with many of its games also existing in a similar Chinese fantasy universe.
A Chinese Ghost Story is its most popular release yet, with over 18 million players flocking to it across the globe since launch.
What sets Oath of Peak apart is its Pokémon-like monster taming. You play as a Spirit Bender, who explores the fantastical world taming classic fantasy creatures like the Kirin, Zhulong, and Baise, amongst many more.
In fact, you can tame pretty much any creature - or Spirit Beast, as the game titles them - that you encounter. They can then join you in battle, improving their power alongside you.
There's plenty of combat to be had too, with your style being determined by the class you choose at the beginning. There are five of these in total, and each follows the classic MMORPG archetypes.
That will come in handy during the game's group content. You can play with others in PVE, taking on challenging monsters, or form a guild with your fellow players and take on PVP, or GVG, content.
There's plenty to keep you busy in Oath of Peak, with a lengthy single player story to complete, a varied map to explore, and loads of Spirit Beasts to tame.
Now might actually be the best time to start it, too, with a Valentine's Day event currently underway. Simply download the game, head on into the store, and grab the special new Hare outfit at a 30% discount for 4 days - which will give your character a visual treat.
If you're tempted, head on over to the App Store or Google Play to grab Oath of Peak right now. You can also follow the official social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter to keep an eye on development, and the game's website too.
