Old school arcade games and the ability to travel at warp speed? What more do you need to make a successful Candy Box type webtoy? Tom Medley has incorporated all this and more in Speed Warp. It's hard to say much, because discovery is half the enjoyment of the game, but the blank screen you begin with won't stay blank for long. A timer counts up, and as it does, more things will become available... including an arcade console. What happens next is up to you to uncover, but we will tell you that crafting and puzzling out secret potions is part of the deal.
Though you have to work (or rather play) for many of your crafting components, Speed Warp is still easily enjoyed in bite size pieces. Your timer and coins continually count up, so it's a good idea to leave it open in the background as you go about your daily browsing, checking in when you have a few open minutes. Make sure you save and bookmark the game for later, as it would be tragic were you to unintentionally close your browser and lose all your progress. While it doesn't have quite the same whimsical charm as Candy Box, Speed Warp nonetheless offers up an enjoyable enigma of an experience that's worth spending some time with.
Thanks to Mikk and Fredley for sending this one in!
Use up and down arrows to control your ship on the arcade machine
Fun game. Doesn't take too long to beat it, though.
Note for the developer:
I believe there's a bug in line 1077 of game4.js. You used Math.max instead of Math.min, so it goes straight from level one to level eight.
Thanks for the heads up, it's fixed now!
This game perfectly shows why JavaScript is a Bad Thing (TM). As soon as a few asteroids are on screen, the game slows to a crawl. Just because it has to show some characters. Do this in Flash instead.
Any advice on potion crafting?
I am assuming that
Chlorine is using its periodic symbol - Cl - as the ingredients. I take this to mean the ingredients are (C)oin and (l)ollipop. So what are the quantities? MMX - (2010?) split in two?
Am I over-thinking this?
TheZeu:
I'm stuck on the same issue as you are.
Two things I'd note:
I get really sick of playing the first two games after a while. I wish there was a way to convert candy or coins into dust or bricks.
The potion making screen is a bit glitchy. It often lets me put multiples of 10 or 100 of a particular item in when I don't have any of that item.
You are close! If you notice in the book it says
keep it sweet. So the c is actually for candy.
As for quantities you are also on the right track.
I at first thought split in half meant dividing it by two. But it's actually 20 candy, 10 lollipops.
Very interesting game!
It would be much easier with a walkthrough, though.
@ThemePark
The Game Runs fine for me, what browser are you using?
Good fun game, but I'm having trouble
beating "Everything"
I 'think' I just got a glitch.
Was playing asteroid, got a bonus (wider paddle)... before I unlocked the brick breaker game.
Speed Warp... must be Java-speak for "tedium"...
I mean, crafting systems in general tend to be terribly dull in the first place, but this adds cumbersome interfaces to at least two intertwined crafting systems and muddies the whole thing up with unnecessary complexity and a boring grind for resources. I almost yearn for the excitement of clicking on a resource node and watching the progress bar fill up.
I liked it! A bit confusing, but I think figuring it out is what makes it enjoyable. Thanks for another great game Kimberly.
Fun game!
But I'm having trouble with the
regeneration potion.
I assumed the first sentence meant I have to use coins and gobstoppers in multiples of 20? So I added 100 of each, then whilst it was boiling, added a 10th of that (10) of each of lollipops and candy. Needless to say, it didn't work.
Any suggestions?
@stephalderton:
it's not a tenth of the amount of coins/gobstoppers you use - it's a tenth of the contents of a health potion (2 candy, 1 lollipop) per 20 coins/gobstoppers.
When I use a potion in combat, I cannot use the arrow keys until I click on the screen. Does everyone have this problem?
Love the game so far!
Does anyone know if
the tonics have any use?
Oh nevermind, I just figured it out.
You just have to boil them after making them.
@Hippasus - I have the same problem. You have to click back in the middle to get arrow keys to work again. Be nice to have it updated to do that automatically . . .
Any advice on
beating the black dragon?
I imagine it might have something to do with
making potions other than health and strength
which I don't know how to do.

For the black dragon:
Fire ranged shots into its mouth while its attacking
Fire Potion:
10 Coins, 10 Gobstopper, +10 Dust while boiling
As for me I'm currently stuck at
The Game fight
I'm having trouble with the Space Race fight; anyone want to post a guide for that fight, and any after it?
Figured out the Space Race fight. The hint is that when you shoot it, it says "Perhaps a different combination is required." What's a very famous key combination in video games?
The Konami Code: Up up down down left right left right B A
The fight against the Universe is tricky to figure out, but just tedious once you know what to do.
Don't use ranged attacks or you'll die. Your normal attacks can destroy the stars in the background. You need to destroy every last star to win. It'll take a while.
The boss after that I haven't beaten, but I'm pretty sure it's just a rerun of everything you've done before.
I have a few questions:
1. Is there an end to any of the arcade games?
2. About the potions:
What does the level 2 health potion do different than the 1st level?
3. About what I think is near the end:
In Death Duel against Everything, are there any tips? I rarely even beat the one that shoots candy there, even using spells.
I probably missed this at some point, but... how do I make candy? I've got the rest of the basic crafting down, but nothing I try yields results towards Candy.
Well, nevermind. I just unlocked a new game that seems to solve my problem. Durr...
If someone could help,
I can't beat the lich king in death duels. It keeps saying your spell has no effect on the lich king.
@hobothehill:
You need a few things:
1. The correct defense action.
2. Get close to him.
3. Attack without the ranged attack (close up battle isn't magic).
@donhuando
I was able to beat the Everything fight using the following strategy:
0) Beforehand, making about 12 each of healing 2 and strength 2 potions, as well as a few reviving potions
1) During the first bit, where the miniature monsters come towards you, I chugged as many health 2 potions as I could to increase my health, while moving as close to the right-hand side of the screen as I could, killing monsters as they got too close to me.
2) I was then right next to the lich monster when it spawned, at which point I started spamming my attacks until it was nearly dead. I took a health 2 potion and administered the coup de grace.
3) I then immediately backtracked as fast as I could, and started firing ranged attacks at the candy man, drinking health 2 potions as often as possible. I continued this for the lollipop man.
4) When the dragon came onscreen, I got a little closer to it, so that my attacks would be timed properly to hit his mouth. I spammed range attacks until it started breathing fire, then took a regeneration potion and began to alternate between blocking his fire and returning fire.
5) After that, I was pretty much all set.
One stage was quite taxing on my wrist:
Whenever clicking on potions mid-battle, my keyboard lost focus on the screen. I'd have to rapidly click back on the screen to block and avoid dying, so I ended up using the keyboard with one hand and the mouse with the other. It was quite a strain, especially when fighting the dragon.
It's a great game, but the final stage asks a bit much.
Okay. I cannot seem to make this work no matter what I do.
I cannot get the potion-making thing to work. I have been trying to make the health potion by putting in 20 candies and 10 lollipops, then pressing boil, but it tells me it only made a bad smell. It is getting annoying... I can't get any farther in the death duels without potions.
Okay, I've
made all of the hard armor.
However, nothing has changed. I think that what happens next should be
I am able to make potions or something
but nothing is different. Help?
figured it out, but I have no idea how to make a
health potion. I've tried putting 1005 of candy and lolipops in, but that doesn't work.
Help? Again?
