Hands up those of you who would love to take a vacation in an "Escape Hotel", especially one designed by Tesshi-e? Well, as luck would have it, that's exactly the premise of The Happy Escape 9, and if you can find all the coins hidden around the room, well, who knows what wonderful things might happen? To play, after first switching the language to English on the main menu unless you can read Japanese, just click to move around the room, use items, or zoom in on things... don't forget to be diligent, since no changing cursor means you'll want to click everywhere so you don't miss something you can interact with! Oh, and whatever you do, no matter how relaxing everything is, and how comfy that bed looks, do not lay down and go to sleep... we've got Happy Coins to find!
As you'd expect from a place that calls itself the "Escape Hotel", every surface of your oh-so-cozy room seems to be covered with puzzles, locks, codes, and items of all kinds... and because it's a Tesshi-e game, you know it's going to be lovingly crafted with care. It's not just that the game itself and its atmosphere is beautiful, although it definitely is with that chilltastic atmosphere, beautiful furniture, and warm, inviting hues of orange and gold. It's that Tesshi-e knows exactly how to make puzzles whose solutions hide in plain sight without being obnoxiously vague or obvious, while also offering up conundrums that will require you to really think things through. The Happy Escape 9 is a little bigger than you might expect, with a lot of ways to view and move around the room, so that it might be easy to miss a few things your first time around. You may actually want to jot down certain clues and information as you find it, to make it easier to keep track of things and work certain solutions out. There are a lot of layers going on here, and it's easy to get overwhelmed by all of it, though once you slow down you'll realize most puzzles aren't as complex as they seem. The Happy Escape 9 isn't going to shatter any records for lengths or complexity... it's simply as solid and enjoyable an escape game as fans have come to expect of Tesshi-e's talents, making it the perfect escape from your own daily drudgery. Now... where can I make my reservation for that hotel?
